How to Remove Wax Stains from Clothes

Easter is coming, and with it comes the worry that your favorite Easter outfit might get stained by melting candle wax. Don’t worry at all! Below, we have the perfect solution so you can wear your favorite clothes again and again, and have them look brand new!

  1. Let the wax harden. Carefully scrape off most of the wax using the dull side of a knife.
  2. Place the stain between 2–3 paper towels and iron at medium temperature without steam. This will melt the remaining wax and allow the paper towels to absorb it. Change the paper towels several times to prevent the wax from reabsorbing into the fabric. Let the garment cool. At this point, all the wax should be removed. However, if the wax was colored, some residue may still remain on the fabric.
  3. Gently apply a small amount of dry cleaning solvent (e.g., cleaning benzine) or a stain remover based on active oxygen (e.g., hydrogen peroxide) to the stained area. Press the spot with some paper towel to lift any remaining colored residue. First, test the product on an inconspicuous area of the garment to ensure it doesn’t cause discoloration. Important: Use cleaning solvent only when the garment is dry. Do not iron clothes that have been treated with benzine, as there is a risk of ignition.
  4. If the stain persists, soak the garment overnight in 5 liters of water with 1 scoop of ESSEX MULTI Laundry Detergent Powder, using the highest temperature allowed according to the garment’s care label. Always test the fabric for colorfastness first on a hidden area.
  5. Wash the garment as usual using ESSEX MULTI Laundry Detergent Powder or ESSEX TOUCH Laundry Detergent, following the care instructions on the label.
